Robert Henry Janowski

Bob Janowski was born November 3, 1920 in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Henry F. Janowski and Magdalene nee Heins. He had two older sisters, Elsa Adelaide and Norma Elinor. Bob was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Iowa Falls on December 6, 1920 by Rev. Henry A. Koenig. When he was three years old, the family moved to Denver, Colorado, where they became members of Emmaus Lutheran Church and the children attended Emmaus School. Bob was confirmed at Emmaus on March 25, 1934 by Rev. Hobart Meyer. He remained a member of Emmaus for 91 years.

In 1938, Bob graduated from North Denver High School, where he was an expert marksman and drill leader for the Rifle Team. During World War II, Bob served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps as a mechanic on B-26s.

Bob served his plumbing apprenticeship with H. F. Janowski Plumbing and Heating. He earned his Journeyman and Master Plumber Certifications and in the 1950s started his own business “Bob Janowski Plumbing and Heating” where he continued to work happily and productively into his 80s.

On December 27, 1941, Bob married Garnette Weatherwax. They were married for forty years until her death and built two homes together, first in North Denver, and then in Wheat Ridge, where Bob lived for 50 years until moving to California.

Left to miss him dearly are Bob’s children, Bob, Jr. (Doris) and Becky Kolberg (John), three grandchildren, Julie Kolberg (Scott Shuler), Wendy Kolberg (Kevin Gross), Brian Kolberg (Debbi), two great granddaughters Zoe and Sarah Kolberg-Shuler, and niece Patricia Foster (Sanford) and nephews Gerry Hulme (Meg), Brian Knudson (Gina), Glenn Knudson and Jere Grenz as well as his cherished friends, new and old, and especially those in the Denver Timing Association and the racing community.

On Saturday, November 1, 2014 – All Saint’s Day--Bob was called by his dear Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ to join his wife, parents, sisters, niece, nephew and other dear Friends in the Church Triumphant.
