Rodney (Rod) was born in Ogalala, Nebraska to Donald and Bernece Wight on January 9, 1935. He graduated High School in Ogalala. He served in the United States Marine Corp for four years as a Sergeant in the Korean War. After being discharged, he married the love of his life Teda Dudden on May 29, 1958. He attended the University of Colorado Denver and was only one class away from earning his Mechanical Engineering degree. Rod and Teda raised two children, Kevin and Jennifer, and were married for over 64 years. Rod worked as a mechanical engineer for Johnson Controls until his retirement in 1996. After retirement, he dedicated his life to his grandchildren and volunteer work.
Rod rode his bike alongside Teda in the Courage Classic for 10 years in support of Children’s Hospital of Colorado. He raised funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) by collecting ink cartridges and donating the proceeds. In his spare time, Rod enjoyed playing golf, gardening, cooking, photography, and reading. He was an avid Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan and attended and watched many of their games.
Rod is survived by his wife, Teda Wight and his two children Kevin (Rhonda) Wight of Ballston Spa, New York, and Jennifer (Curtis) Behm of Littleton, Colorado. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jessica McFerrin, Ashley McFerrin, Brandon Wight and Lindsay Wight.
