Shirley Ann Chavez was born Oct 24, 1949 in Denver, Colorado to Rose Chavez and stepfather Alfonso Jimenez. She was one of seven: siblings, Johnny Barros, (deceased), Joan Kain (deceased), Robert Barros (deceased), Anita Walker (New Jersey NY), Jimmy Chavez (deceased), and Dan Jimenez (Denver). Shirley attended Smedley Middle School and graduated from East High School.
Shirley gave birth to her amazing daughter Kim Chavez in 1968 and loved every minute of motherhood. She was an amazing mother and Kim was her pride and joy.
Shirley worked with Public Service as a lines/woman for a few years and then decided to pursue her passion in the arts and moved to New York City with her daughter to join her sister Anita.
She applied to the renowned Pratt Institute in Brooklyn New York in mid-seventies and graduated with her fine arts degree. First of the family to make this achievement. She would work for a large architectural firm for several years designing and fabricating stained glass windows for churches, office buildings and residential dwellings.
Shirley returned to Colorado in 1984 to be around more family and back to her roots. She opened a studio, Eclectic Designs, with her sister-in-law Marie Jimenez in Highlands Square. Her amazing work would find its way into homes and businesses throughout Denver. She eventually joined her brother, Dan, in real estate.
Shirley passed on Oct 20, 2020, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter Kim, sister Anita, brother Dan and nieces and nephews in Denver, New York, and Michigan.
Her light will always shine; she was the kindest soul, full of love and hope for all.
