Tammy Lynn Welshon, wife of Lawrence Welshon and mother of Ethan and Eleanor (Ellie) Welshon, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at home in Edgewater, Colorado. Tammy was the daughter of Ronald Avers and Gay Whalen.
Born in Denver in 1964, Tammy spent her formative years in Edgewater, Colorado, where she committed herself to becoming a teacher at the tender age of four. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and English from Colorado State University and a Master of Arts in English as a Second Language from the University of Colorado-Denver. At the time of her death, Tammy was a beloved teacher at Alameda International High School in Lakewood. She’d previously taught at Hinkley H.S., Smiley M.S., Alpine Valley School, and Arvada H.S. A prolific artist, Tammy shared her creativity with everyone using a variety of media. She loved to teach and enjoyed her many students over the years, as her family and friends can attest.
Tammy was consistently and tirelessly supportive of her family, friends, and students, taking pleasure in others’ accomplishments. Tammy was also a gardener, cook, baker, and animal lover. Naturally positive and effervescent, she drew inspiration from all she came in contact with, particularly her children, husband, and parents.
Tammy and her husband, Lawrence, met on a blind date in high school. Married for 25 years at the time of her death, Tammy and Lawrence raised their children, Ethan and Eleanor, to young adulthood. Together, they created a warm, inviting home in Edgewater and started Alpine Valley School in Wheat Ridge.
In addition to her husband and children, Tammy is survived by her mother and father, her brothers Robert Whalen and Jimmy Avers, and her sisters Amy Whalen and Jami (Avers) Englemann. Tammy was preceded in death by a brother, Todd Avers.
Donations may be made in her name to the Cat Care Society of Lakewood. A celebration of Tammy’s life will take place after the new year: if you wish to be notified of the date, please contact the family at [email protected].
