Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Applewood Baptist Church for Thomas Wilson of Golden, Colorado, beloved husband, father, grandfather, musician, and artist who passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the age of 70.
Thomas Charles Wilson was an only child born to Dorthey and Ralph Wilson, on July 31, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan. When he was 6 months old his family moved to Des Plaines, Illinois where he grew up. Tom, “Tommy”, “Tom Tom,” “Papa Tom,” recalled his childhood stories with enthusiasm, from the Christmas he received his first BB gun, to playing cowboys and Indians in the woods behind his house. He always kept his parents busy with his many endeavors. One such pursuit was his love of movie-making. His senior year in high school an article was published regarding the movie he had produced which said, “He [Tom] is destined for movie making!” While Tom never made any more movies he maintained and shared a passion for them for the rest of his life. He went on to college at the Illinois Institute of Technology earning a degree in Industrial Design. While there he received a Frank Loyd Wright scholarship to study architecture in Japan for a semester. Later he moved to Denver, Colorado, and began working for Monigle Associates in 1981, and remained there 40 loyal years until his retirement in August of 2021. In Denver, he met his first wife Darlene Griffin, and the mother of his 3 daughters: Beth, April, and Candace. He devoted most of his free time to raising his 3 girls, passing on his wisdom and enriching them with life experiences and love. After his divorce, Tom could be found giving his full support to his kids out on the volleyball court. It was here that he met his sweetheart Kimberly Griffeth and her 3 kids Jennifer, Jessica, and Garrett. Kimberly “Kim” and Tom were married in 2007 and moved to Golden, Colorado where he energetically settled into having 6 children and a very large extended family, which brought him a lifetime of joy and pride. Over the years Tom’s family continued to grow when his daughters were married and he gained 4 son-in-laws. He was overjoyed to learn that he would soon be gaining a daughter-in-law. When Tom wasn’t working he could be found playing his guitar or piano, singing, performing magic shows, cooking, working in his garden, riding his bike, motoring, watercoloring, and reading his bible. Tom found time to teach a bible study at their church. He quickly became a favorite teacher because of his bright sense of humor and the creative ways he brought the bible to life. All of Tom’s passions he shared with his 11 grandkids; Trevor, Reagan, Kennedy, Ellie, Colton, Piper, Luna, Carson, Cooper, Riley and Jaxon Young. Although Tom had more hobbies than most, what he was most passionate about and treasured above all was his big family.
Tom is preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorthy and Ralph Wilson. Ann Cowan.
Tom is survived by his wife Kimberly Wilson, his children and their spouses Beth and Randy Mikes, April Wilson, Candace and Jason Gilchrist, Jennifer and Bryan Poulton, Jessica and Trey Wright, Garrett Griffeth, his grandkids Trevor and Regan Mikes, Kennedy and Ellie Gilchrist, Piper Poulton, Luna Sanchez, Carson and Cooper Poulton, and Colton Wright.
