Mr. Schaff was born January 24, 1920, on a farm northeast of Eldridge, the son of Effie (Boeh) and Leonard Schaff. He attended one-room school in Eldridge and graduated from Davenport Central High School.
He married his high school sweetheart, Lenore Schiesser, on Aug. 15, 1942.
He farmed in Scott County, first on the Clapp farm north of Eldridge and then on the Schroeder farm northwest of Maysville. In 1965, he began a 20-year career as a truck driver in Davenport, later moving to Geneseo. He retired in 1987 and moved to Denver, Colo.
He was a member of the Eldridge Knights of Pythias, where he served as Chancellor Commander.
His hobbies were photography, enjoying the mountains, the environment and music of all kinds and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a life-long learner.
Survivors include two sons, Dean and Dana (Donna) Schaff; two granddaughters, Kayla (Chris) Velasques and Emily (Chris) Neill; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Marvin (Annette) Schaff, Waynesboro, Va., and Wilbert Schaff, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Carol Warner; a sister, Dorothy Schaff; and an infant brother, William Schaff.
