Wanda Ilene Barth was born on September 14, 1924 in Platteville, CO to Vera L. Lacey and Major S. Barth. Wanda is survived by her son, Keith Perushek (Judy), daughter, Lory Badger (Dan), siblings: Betty Gibson, Laverne Knaak, and Ralph Barth. Three grandchildren: Monique White (Doug), Ali Vollmer (Jeff), Bryan Strickland (Jenifer). Seven great-grandchildren: Aurora Hunter (Jud), Christian Lindholm, Donovan Lindholm, Brittany Baltadano (Andy), Madison Vollmer, Trystan and Embyr Strickland. three great great-granddaughters: Emily and Lauren Hunter, and Zaylee Baltadano. Also several nieces and nephews.
Wanda lost her mother at an early age and spent many of her formative years in Greeley, CO in the care of her grandparents, Anna and Jacob Barth and lived with them until her high school graduation.
She talked about crawling up and down and working the beet fields as a child. Perhaps this influenced her love of gardening and her green thumb.
In her early adult life she moved to Omaha, NB and lived with her aunt Margurite Condreay and uncle Clarence Condreay and their five children and worked in the Glenn L. Martin defense plant.
A few years later, Wanda moved to Denver, CO. In November 1949 she gave birth to a son, Keith and raised him as a single parent until she met Louis Perushek. She was introduced to him by the woman who owned the house in which she rented an apartment. They were married on Nov 26, 1953.
In January 1954, they moved into the basement of the home her husband was building in southwest Denver. In May 1956, Wanda gave birth to a daughter, Lorraine (Lory).
Wanda loved being a homemaker. She had a love for gardening, cooking, sewing, knitting and crocheting. And even though she had periods of part-time work outside the home, she devoted herself to family and home. She loved all her family very much and had the opportunity to spend much time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; making memories that will live on forever.
Her faith in God was strong and it sustained her to the end. Her advice: read one Proverb and five Psalms a day.
Wanda’s roots in southwest Denver were deep. She loved being close to home. She was fortunate to remain in her home after her husband passed away in 2004 and until the time of her passing on 9/17/23. That was her wish — and it was granted.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests gifts be made in her name to her favorite radio station that she listened to even up to the end of her life:
