Wanda grew up in Boone, attended Jordan High School where she was Valedictorian of her graduating class. She then attended Iowa School of Nursing and graduated as an RN in 1957.
Wanda moved to Colorado to live with her older sister Dorothy in 1958. She practiced nursing for thirty-five years in Colorado. She then had a second career as a real estate agent for several years before retiring.
She met her husband, Lyle L Schaefer and shared a marriage lasting 60 years before his death in May 2020. They shared a love of sports both local and professional, and attended high school events at Denver Lutheran High School where Lyle was a teacher for many years.
Wanda is succeeded by her daughters, Linda Schaefer Hanley, Valerie Schaefer, and Gloria Rybkowski as well as three granddaughters, Tessa Zatorski, Erin Rybkowski, and Meghann Rybkowski.
Services for Wanda Schaefer will be at 10 am on Friday March 31, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakewood, CO followed by graveside services at Crown Hill.
The family requests memorial donations to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
