Alfred F. Nettle, Jr., affectionately known as "Bud" or “Al” by all who knew him, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at the age of 88, in Milford, Michigan. Born on December 10, 1936, in Royal Oak Twp, Michigan, Bud's warm presence and joyous spirit were a blessing to his family and the community that he cherished deeply.
Bud's journey through life was marked by his unwavering devotion to his beloved wife, Joy, to whom he was married for a remarkable 68 years. Their love story began with a chance encounter, as Joy was hitchhiking, and blossomed into a lifetime of shared memories and adventures. Bud was a loving father to Alfred "Buzz" (Denise) Nettle, III, Linda (Tim) Sullivan, Randy (Sheila) Nettle, Kathy Anderson, Greg Nettle, and Sue (Don) Connors. His legacy includes 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren who will carry forward the light of his love and the echo of his laughter.
His family came first always. Bud proudly co-owned and operated his own barber shop for nearly 50 years on Orchard Lake Road, where he not only crafted fine haircuts but also fostered a sense of community and friendship among his clientele. From the basement barber shop on 9 Mile Rd, to Charter House Barber Shop, his career was filled with countless stories and connections made while standing behind his barber chair. Bud’s interests were varied and full of the simple joys of life. He was an avid golfer, relishing the quiet mornings on the green and the camaraderie of his golfing buddies. Traveling was another of Bud's pleasures; he loved exploring new places with Joy and creating memories with his children when they were young.
Bud's handlebar mustache and happy disposition were his trademarks. He had a natural ability to light up any room he entered, and his laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of hearing it. He was the kind of person who never hesitated to offer a hug or help a neighbor in need, making everyone feel valued and loved. His love for coffee, euchre, reading, and solving crossword and jig-saw puzzles were just a few of the everyday delights that he enjoyed and often shared with others. While he is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his cherished wife, Joy, Bud's spirit will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. His was a life well-lived, full of joy, generosity, and an abundance of hugs and laughter. Bud will be deeply missed, yet his legacy will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to know him.
