Ann Marie Kuhn, affectionately known as Annie to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at her home in Clarkston, Michigan, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on November 14, 1964, in Pontiac, Michigan, Annie's life was a tapestry of joy, service, and the love she shared with those around her.
Annie's journey with her soulmate, Gary Kuhn, began on a beautiful summer day, July 10, 1993, in Commerce Township, Michigan. Their wedding, set against the picturesque backdrop of her parent's home on Proud Lake, was sealed with the romantic strains of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately." This melody would resonate through their years together as a testament to their enduring love.
The role of motherhood was one that Annie cherished deeply, raising her daughters Ellen Kuhn and Abbey (Evan) David with tenderness and wisdom. Her family was the heart of her world, and she embraced every moment with them, from the simplest joys to the grand adventures.
Annie's siblings held a special place in her life. She was a beloved sister to Fred (Christine Cesare) Stapula, Jim (Lorna) Stapula, Mike Stapula, and carried the memory of her late brothers, Dan (Donna) and Bob (Mary) Stapula, with grace and love. Each family gathering was brighter because of her presence. Preceded in death by her parent's Emil "Charlie" and Jeannette.
Her love extended beyond her human family to her furry grand dogs, Mila and Kelso, who brought her immeasurable happiness and companionship. Annie's nurturing spirit was a blessing to all lives she touched, both two-legged and four-legged.
Annie's professional life was marked by her caring nature as she served as an aid and supervisor at nursing homes. Her compassionate heart found another outlet in volunteer work, where she and her daughters, Abbey and Ellen, dedicated 20 years to delivering Meals on Wheels in their community. It was a testament to her selfless spirit and commitment to serving those in need.
Nature was Annie's sanctuary. She found peace in the outdoors, whether hiking with her family, camping, or retreating to the family cabin on Proud Lake. This cherished spot, over 100 years old, was a repository of memories and the setting for a tradition of capturing the tranquil lookout on the water in photographs.
Annie's creative soul reveled in painting by number, assembling puzzles, and crafting scrapbooks that chronicled the rich tapestry of her family's life. Music was her joy, with The Guess Who, Van Morrison, and Cat Stevens providing the soundtrack for her life's moments. Known for her "best back-up vocals around on car rides," she would often sing and dance, infusing energy and laughter into every journey.
Her mornings were sweetened with generously mixed creamer and sugar with a little coffee too, a simple pleasure that brought comfort to her days. Annie's love for birds and birdwatching, especially the sight of cardinals, was a poignant reminder of her siblings and parents who had passed, a connection to the love that transcended time.
Games of Yahtzee with Annie were unforgettable, as she was known to always come out on top, much to the delight and mock dismay of her opponents. Her favorite color, forest green, mirrored her love for the natural world and its boundless beauty.
Annie was the embodiment of a loving, adventurous, and thoughtful spirit. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark of kindness and joy. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Annie's love and the memories she created with her family and friends will forever remain a cherished part of their lives.
As the sun sets on a life so beautifully lived, we remember Ann Marie Kuhn, a woman whose love knew no bounds, and whose spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
