A funeral visitation for Barbara will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 4800 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield, Michigan 48322, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Barb was a great lady. Her greatest loves were her husband of 56 years, James Timmerman, her son Bradley Timmerman, her daughter Tracy Rozman (Michael) and her grandchildren, Nicholas and Alayna.
Her greatest gifts in life were the abilities to love and to give of herself. And she had a pretty wonderful sense of humor too!
She was born on December 14, 1939 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to her parents Emma and James Shriver. The family, including her older brother James Eugene (Gene), who preceded her in death, moved north to Michigan and settled in Howell.
Her parents divorced as a child and she gained a step-father, John Casterton, as a young teenager. She grew up loving to dance and create art. Both past times she continued to enjoy throughout her life. She graduated from Howell High School in 1957 and continued her education at Michigan State University where she graduated from.
From there she went to work. Notably working as a secretary at the Michigan State Capital. After she and Jim married, started a family and moved to West Bloomfield, MI she stayed home to be with her children. They eventually settled in Westacres, a family orientated neighborhood. Because Jim was a Golf Course Superintendent and could not vacation in the summer, the summer days spent at the Westacres beach were a God send to her and the kids. During this time she took on babysitting work for other neighborhood children. One babysitting job led her to meet her best friend, partner in crime, and maybe most importantly, her shopping buddy, Marilyn. Not a garage sale or resale shop was safe from these two!
She then became the church secretary at her church, Sylvan Lake Lutheran where she was an active and involved member. This job let her be an involved parent and there was not a kid activity that she was not a part of, sports, scouts, school PTO events all benefited from Barb's talents. As Brad and Tracy got older, she began her work at the Arthritis Foundation where she retired in 2002.
Her last job was the one she loved the most, being Grandma to Nick and Alayna. As infants she was there daily making sure Tracy got a nap and kids were well taken care of. She took care of all of us.
Barb is also survived by her brother-in-law, Alan Timmerman, her nieces, Kimberly Bussel (Gary), Karen Grossnickel (Christopher), and Stephany Brown, her nephews,
Christopher Timmerman (Shannon) and Jes Shriver (Rhonda), many great-nieces and nephews and special family friends, Marilyn Fessler, and Marilyn's children, Liz (Mike) Smith, Kathy Thomas and Robert Fessler.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to the Open Door Outreach Center.
