Franck Alonso Mendez, age 84, of Detroit, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, January 11 2026. Franck was the son of Spanish immigrants who instilled in him a strong work ethic and a love for good food grown from the earth. His parents cultivated a thriving garden next to the family's homestead. Those early experiences stayed with Franck throughout his life. Franck traveled in his younger years working in electronics and then ultimately finding a passion in woodworking. Franck was a devoted son to his mother Sally. He moved back home later in life to support his mother after his father had passed away. Franck also loved to tinker with cars and anything mechanical with his brother Joseph. The Mendez brothers would find every possible way to get an old machine running even if their methods were unconventional. Franck enjoyed conversations with family and friends. He was always kind and never overstepped or judged others. He loved his neighborhood in Detroit and kept a small circle of friends. Frank loved animals. He showed compassion in quiet ways, often feeding the feral cats near his house.
He is survived by his nieces: Michelle Mendez, Rita LaFaive, Anita Banach and Nicole Mendez. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Soledad Mendez and his brother Joseph Mendez.
