Helen E Cooper

Helen Cooper, ‘Bette”, age 78, of West Bloomfield; passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2012. Bette earned her Bachelors degree from MSU in History. She later obtained her teaching certificate and taught for several years in Rochester, Holt and Walled Lake areas. After her teaching career, she was an enthusiastic homemaker and devoted all her time loving and raising her family. Her passion was spending over 40 years in the Girl Scouts, where she also served as a delegate. She was a member of Orchard Lake Community Church Presbyterian in Orchard Lake, taught vacation Bible study, story telling at local organizations, and was an avid supporter of the music and arts in the Metro Detroit and Stratford. Daughter of both the late Valentine and Helen Christian; beloved wife of the late Robert Edward Cooper; dear mother of Christian (Denise) Cooper, Peter Cooper, Lizanne (Abubaker Bushagour) Cooper, James (Margaret) Cooper; proud grandmother of Jennifer, Sally, Amira, Lilyanne, Joseph, Laila, Lauren, Robert; sister of Albertina Finnegan; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her siblings Bill Christian, David Christian, Dick Christian and Val Christian. The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Orchard Lake Community Church Presbyterian, 5171 Commerce Road, Orchard Lake, MI 48324. The Memorial Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road, White Lake. The family will gather at church on Tuesday to receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service; Inurnment at Pine Lake Cemetery, West Bloomfield. Memorials suggested to the Girl Scouts of Southeast Michigan; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
