Jean passed away in a convalescent facility in White Lake Township, Michigan. Her health had been in decline for several years. Jean is survived by her two sons Michael (Jenny) Kecskes and Wayne (Sheree) Kecskes, her four grandchildren, Lauren Hotvedt, Alana Kecskes, Ryan Spitza and Katelyn Spitza, a brother, Gary (Sue) Montgomery and a sister, Sandra Dibble. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Kecskes, daughter, Lynn Spitza, and parents, Ruby and Bill Montgomery.
Jean was born in Detroit on July 24, 1938 and graduated from Saint Gregory High School in Detroit in 1956. Jean met her husband Bill on a blind date in 1957 and several months later they were married in Colorado Springs where Bill was completing his military obligation. They built a home and lived for several decades in the Shady Beach subdivision of Orchard Lake. After raising her children, Jean worked for the adult education department of West Bloomfield Schools for many years. Upon retirement she and Bill spent their winters in Lakeland, Florida.
Jean was very creative and loved to watercolor paint. In addition, she seemed to be always taking an adult education class in something and became very interested in genealogy. She wrote to various government organizations and newspapers and was quite successful in locating numerous relatives. She also wrote some articles for the "Good Old Days" magazine that they published. One called "Friday's Meal" credited her father with his ability to create interesting meals out of that week's leftovers.
Jean was a very out-going and caring individual. She loved to be going someplace (anyplace) and being with friends and relatives. She will be missed by all that knew her.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the White Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road in White Lake. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the Funeral Home. Jean will then be reunited with her beloved, Bill at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Michigan.
