Debora Ann Jaquis, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, veteran, and cherished friend, passed away on March 20, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on June 6, 1967, Debora lived a life filled with love, service, and a deep commitment to the people around her.
Debora proudly served her country as a medic in the United States Army during the 1980s. Her time in the service shaped the compassion, strength, and sense of responsibility that defined her throughout her life. After her military service, she continued her lifelong calling to care for others, both within her family and her community.
Debora was known for her generous spirit and her deep desire to care for anyone who needed support. She spent countless hours volunteering, always eager to give back and help wherever she could. She loved watching children and had a natural ability to make them feel safe, seen, and loved. To many, she was not just a friend or neighbor — she was a second mother. Debora “adopted” those who needed one, opening her heart and home without hesitation. Whether it was supporting community events, cooking, or simply showing up for others in quiet, meaningful ways, Debora made a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. Debora is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Salas, and her son-in-law, Ernesto Salas; and by her three beloved grandchildren — Austin, Jaxon, and Emma — who were the center of her world. She devoted as much time as possible to being with them, celebrating their accomplishments, nurturing their dreams, and creating memories they will cherish forever.
Debora is also survived by her loving husband, Gregory Jaquis Jr.; her sister, Shelly Wenzel, and brother-in-law Frank Wenzel; her brother, Calvin Lee Garoutte, and sister-in-law Donna Garoutte; and her nieces, Leila Garoutte and Katie Wenzel. She leaves behind a large circle of cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Family meant everything to Debora. After the passing of her mother, she embraced the role of family matriarch—providing stability, love, and leadership to those around her. She enjoyed gathering with loved ones, playing cards, sharing laughter, and making sure that everyone felt cared for and included.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin J. and Mary Ann Garoutte.
Debora will be remembered for her selflessness, her gentle humor, her unwavering dedication to family, and her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Hillside Funeral Home West, 2929 West 13th Street North, Wichita, KS 67203, on March 26, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
