

90, passed away on November 2, 2015 at Lakepoint Skilled Nursing Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on January 26, 1925 in Ordway, Colorado to Charles and Georgia Smith. Doris grew up in Ordway, Colorado and graduated from high school in 1943. After high school she attended college at Westmar in Lemars, Iowa and received a teaching certificate two years later. She began teaching 1st/2nd grade at Sugar City, Colorado for 1 year. She taught later in life an additional 11 years. Doris married Elton in 1945 in Taylor, Nebraska. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary June 3rd of this year. Doris was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church where Elton was pastor. They also were privileged to serve as missionaries in Japan from 1950 to 1960. She enjoyed teaching, playing the piano, bible study, flower arranging, raising her children, and watching sports. Doris is survived by her husband, Elton of Wichita; their children, Sue Lynn of Stillwater, OK; Dana of Wichita; Renee of Wichita, and Andrew of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Carolyn of Pueblo, CO and Wanda of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Aimee, Emily, Laura Beth, Jacob and Krista; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Makenna, Grayson, Levi, and Griffin. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Georgia Smith of Pueblo, CO; a sister Evelyn of Ordway, CO; a brother Harold of Vancouver, WA; and a sister Dorothy Faye of Pueblo, CO. A funeral service will be held at Hillside Funeral Home West at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7. The family will be greeting friends and relatives after the service.
