

Virgil C.Raffety, age 87, retired District Service Manager for NCR, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014. He was born September 10, 1926 in Sylvan Grove, KS, the son of Stanley E. and Helen J. (Lawson) Raffety. On July 3, 1947 he married Pauline Howry in Manhattan, KS. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jane Icks. Virgil was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church where he attended for 32 years. He was also very involved in Bella Vista Art Club where he was a past-president and past director of the Art Festival. He also helped in the restoration of the Wishing Springs Art Gallery. Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Polly Raffety, Wichita, KS; son, Pat and wife, Cindy Raffety, Niotaze, KS; daughter, Shelley and husband, Bob Ostby, Wichita, KS; sister, Laura Arnold, Larnard, KS; grandchildren, Nick Raffety, Rebecca Raffety, Cale Ostby, and Sean Ostby; two great grandchildren, Madison and Gage Raffety. Private family services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s Association, 1820 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67214. Hillside Funeral Home, 2929 W. 13th Street, Wichita, KS 67203 is in charge of the arrangements.
