Junior/Dave/David was born June 1, 1938 in Blockton, Iowa. He was the youngest of Willis “Bus” McCalla and Nola Older McCalla’s four children. He was raised on a 100 year farm, rich with family history, in a small farming community. He would bring his children back often to visit grandparents. Many good times were had and many happy memories remain of the farm he grew up on.
He enlisted at age 18 in the United States Regular Army and served as a platoon sergeant for two year. He was stationed in Germany during the Cold War Era. He loved telling stories about his time in the service.
After getting out of the service he went to Chicago, IL to electronics school. David worked in electronics for several companies in Wichita before retiring from Boeing in 1995.
While visiting his sister in Wichita after the army, he met his future wife. He married his sweetheart Beverly Haskins in 1963 at Westside Christian Church. Their interests have included gardening, playing cards, camping, hunting and traveling. They tackled too many projects to count including, home improvements and recreational land projects “together”. They raised four children along the way with love and faith. They were members of Cornerstone Christian Church.
He was a member of the Chisolm Trail Antique Gun Club as well as Air Capitol Gun Club where he had many friends. He loved to shoot trap, shoot pool and was very good at both. He also loved to metal detect and train his bird dogs. He was a proud American and prayed and worried daily for the condition of this great country.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Beverly (Haskins) McCalla, son Don Morgan (Sharon), daughter Kim Westeman (Joe), daughter Karen Bazzelle (Ron), son Brad McCalla (Pam); 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great grand kids to arrive in 2024.
