Ronald “Ron” Barbieri, 78, a resident of Wolcott for the past 50 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital after a short illness. Ron was born in Paterson, NJ on April 21, 1944 and was the son of the late Reginald and Teresa Barbieri. He spent the first 22 years of his life living in Totowa Borough, NJ, where he was raised with his twelve siblings including his sister Josephine “Jo” with whom he had a special relationship with. While in New Jersey, Ron graduated from Passaic Valley High School, was chosen to attend New Jersey Boys state program at Rutgers, and went on to attain a B.A. of Engineering from Stevens Tech., Hoboken, NJ. Upon graduating college, he was hired by Sikorsky Aircraft to work in R&D, which prompted his move to Connecticut. Later, he moved into the Sales Engineering, Marketing & Product Management work at Philips Technologies, Airpax, and then Thomson Airpax until retirement. Pre-Covid, Ron loved dining out and could often be seen at Nino’s, sipping a martini and conversing with the regular crowd. He especially liked going out for breakfast where he could be found working on the daily crossword puzzle. Even though his body was failing, he was a true intellectual and his mind was “sharp”, right to the end. In fact, some of his friend’s referred to him as the “professor” due to being precise and organized. EVERYTHING was printed out on a spreadsheet and neatly filed away. Ron is survived by his brother, Rocco, and also by his dear friend and supportive partner of 32 years, Chris Carney. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his siblings as well as his longtime friend and companion, Larry Jamison. Calling hours for Ron will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Road, Wolcott, CT 06716. A service will be held at 7:00 PM following the calling hours. Ron will be laid to rest on December 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 52 Totowa Rd, Totowa, NJ 07512. In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, Ron would have loved for you to do a good deed, especially for someone in need.
