Susan Winchester Horton, 77, died at her home Tuesday, April 13. Born to the late Dr. and Mrs. Millard E. Winchester and the late Ralph and Evelyn Stewart, Susan was a native and lifelong resident of Brunswick.
Family and friends will bid farewell to Susan at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at her graveside in Palmetto Cemetery. The Rev. Jim McIlrath will officiate.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Amy Horton Carter (Sam), and her beloved grandson, John Michael, all of Alpharetta; her son, George Horton; her sister and best friend, Lynn Winchester Stewart (Bill) of St. Simons Island; her brother, Chris Stewart of Brunswick; a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom shared in caring for Susan in her later years and whom she dearly loved, along with good friends too numerous to count.
In addition to her grandparents and parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George W. Horton.
An accomplished artist, Susan introduced children and adults of all ages to her own unique style of painting through informal classes taught at her home. After selling her medical billing practice in the early 1990s, Susan took up art full-time, partnering with her husband, George, to design, build, and paint whimsical furnishings and commissioned pieces through their business, Art Attacks and Strokes. She and George traveled the Southeast in their "happy truck," a vintage Dodge van, attending art shows and special events to market their work.
Susan's primary goal in life was to make people laugh, and she exceeded the mark every single day of her life, up to her last one. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.
If you wish to honor Susan's memory, please donate in her name to the charity of your choice. Children, animals, and art were her greatest pleasures in life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, Georgia. www.edomillerandsons.com
