Our beloved father Robert (Bob) August DiGiovanni, 88, was called home by Jesus on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, NJ. Born and raised in Union City, NJ he also lived in Westwood, Toms River, Aberdeen, and most recently in Matawan at Spring Hills Atrium Assisted Living.
Bob was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving faithfully as a Medical Corpsman during the Korean War. He held several jobs before happily retiring, including his own painting business, and being a printer/proofreader at Charles P. Young in NYC for many years. He was the Captain and long-time member of the Westwood volunteer ambulance corps for many years.
He will be remembered as a gentleman by all who knew him, and as someone always ready to help in time of need, share a laugh, or provide compassion to both loved ones and strangers alike. Bob was very social and he brought joy to the lives he touched. He had a strong Christian faith, he loved to dance, organize a bocce social league, and was always charitable to animals - with a special fondness for dogs.
Bob was predeceased by Patricia DiGiovanni, his loving wife of 54 years, and is now joyfully reunited with her. He is also predeceased by his brother, Albert DiGiovanni. Surviving are his son and his wife, Glenn and Julia DiGiovanni of Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ, his daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Stan Mozeika of Aberdeen, NJ, and four grandchildren - Elyssa DiGiovanni Hilton and her husband Joseph, Garrett DiGiovanni, Kenneth DiGiovanni, and Grace Mozeika.
A private interment will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. A separate celebration of Bob’s life will take place at Grace Christian Church in Tinton Falls, NJ in the future. In lieu of flowers donations in Bob's name may be to either: The Monmouth County SPCA or Jersey Shore Rescue Mission.
