Muriel moved to Las Vegas 50 years ago from Illinois, and enjoyed almost 20 years as a teacher at Western High School. After retiring, she maintained a vibrant life, even entering the Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant where she was 1st runner up and Miss Congeniality. Her talent as “Smiles” the Sign Language Clown, grew into a decade long ministry, visiting children in the hospitals and performing at senior centers and nursing homes.
She lived a full life -- 95 years -- ministering to others, loving her family, and serving her Lord. She enjoyed painting, all kinds of crafts and needlework, gardening, and being a hostess to family, friends, and neighbors. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking in the park, biking and swimming.
She is survived by her two daughters: Michelle Dodds and Margo Tims and son-in-law, Barry, two grandchildren: Dustin and Heidi and her husband Juan, and four great-grandchildren: Johanan, Samuel, Timothy, and Elaina.
She will be interred in Oklahoma. A Celebration of Life will be held in September at First Baptist Church in Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons International or First Baptist Church, Las Vegas.
