Dorwin Alvin Wooten passed from this world July 22, 2017 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Born in Andalusia, Alabama on October 12, 1937 to Henry Alvin and Dovie Wooten, he attended school in Jay, Florida and married Marie Simmons on December 21, 1957 in the town of Hartford, Alabama.
Dorwin enlisted in the United States Air Force in January of 1956, retiring to Iowa Park, Texas as a Senior Master Sergeant in January of 1976. During his time of service, he received training as an aircraft mechanic at Sheppard Air Force base and later became a specialist in guidance systems for the Titan I missile program. Throughout his later years of military service he was recognized for his vast expertise and implementation of numerous improvements to the Department of Defense voice communication system known as Autovon.
Dorwin had a lifelong love of gardening and all things mechanical. Upon his retirement from the Air Force he pursued both with a passion. He worked for Gilmore Incorporated as an electrical troubleshooter for many years and eventually opened "Quality Plus Auto and Truck Electric". He was known by farmers, truckers and oilfield workers as a man who could fix most anything. He was know by friends and family as a man who could grow most anything. In recent years, he became an avid fan and follower of Iowa Park Lady Hawk sports. Attending games whenever possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Cortez Wooten, and sister Lorene Bryan. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marie, his brothers Edgar, Melvin, Clayton and Odis, sisters Opal and Edna Mae. A son Kerry Wooten and wife Kim of Woodinville, Washington, daughter Denise Gilmore and husband Billy of Iowa Park. Granddaughters Lilah Gilmore, Stephanie Wooten, and Nikki Wooten.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, July 26th at Dutton Funeral home in Iowa Park, Texas. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 27th, followed by graveside services at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park.
