COLUMBIA Memorial service for Joan Patricia Davren, 91, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2019, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Davren, widow of the late John William Davren Jr., died Thursday, November 14, 2019. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late John Charles Behringer and Ellen Cahill Behringer.
Joan was a graduate of the Mary Lewis Academy in New York and after raising her four children, Joan worked as a bank manager. She later enjoyed a fulfilling retirement with her beloved husband, John. Together they traveled extensively through Europe and the Americas. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved bowling, golf, and playing bridge. She enjoyed nothing better than a good book or crossword puzzle and could be found every evening watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. As a young woman, she sang and danced for the USO during World War II in New York.
She is survived by her sons, John W. Davren III of Cincinnati, OH, Neil P. Davren (Kathleen) of Pearl River, N.Y.; daughters, Ellen D. Gindman of Columbia, Barbara Ann Sharp (Andy) of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Davren; 12 grandchildren, Jessica, Kelly, Meaghan, Jaclyn, Erin, Colleen, Kimberly, Jacob, Daniel, Clare, Liam, Emily; and 10 great-grandchildren.
