Fee was born January 25, 1944. Fee passed away on December 1st, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Education: Fee graduated from Rome Free Academy, he continued his education at St. Gregorys University in Shawnee, Ok. He received his bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tn, where he was on a baseball scholarship. Fee was an All-Conference player in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Upon completion of his degree in Elementary Education, Fee taught in the Rome Public School System until his retirement.
In addition to his teaching career, Fee was lovingly called ‘Coach DeCosty’ and coached in Rome for many years.
Fee’s career included coaching at many levels from freshman baseball and football to varsity baseball at Rome Catholic High School and Rome Free Academy. His teams have won many championships over the years at both Rome high schools. At RFA, the USA Today ranked one of his teams in the top 25 in the country.
Fee also coached Lee Legion as well as assisted with Smith Post. Fee helped found the New York State Summer College Baseball League, where he coached the Rome Indians. He coached a select local Little League team in the Cooperstown Dreamers Program. He ended his baseball coaching career with Utica College. Fee participated in many youth baseball camps over the years in the Northeast, most notable were clinics at Franklin Field and Lemoyne College. He won numerous coaching awards and was an inducted member of the Rome Sports Hall of Fame.
Fee was a dedicated member of the Pancreatic Cancer Network. Fee was a proud member of the Core 6, who loved him like a brother and supported him throughout his battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was a very passionate NY Yankee and Giants fan, he adopted the Jaguars on his move to Jacksonville. Fee was an excellent family chef and enjoyed cooking for his friends and family.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Fiore J. DeCosty Sr and Josephine Cosimeno DeCosty and his sister Carmella Ruane.
Mr. DeCosty is survived by his loving wife; Diane, his sons; Fiore III, Derek and Damon, his daughters; Christina Geiger(Len Geiger) and Carin Bova and his grandchildren; Sophia, Dylan, Ahna and Ava. Surviving siblings include his sister; Sister Carmella DeCosty and brother; Frank DeCosty Sr, 5 nephews and 1 niece.
Memorial Service is at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills, 850 St. John's Bluff Road N. Jacksonville, Fl 32225
4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday December 9, 2019, mass will be at 7:00 pm
Fee wished that final interment will be in Rome, NY, St Johns the Baptist Cemetery, date TBD.
