on September 14, 1938 in Brooklynn, New York. Allan “abandoned the physical garment and
ascended to the spiritual world” November 11, 2020. His kind and generous presence will be
sorely missed by many friends, his Bahá’í family, and cousins; Patti Weiler, Jessica Ostick, and
Nancy Geissler.
Allan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from The College of the City of New
York, served in the Army as a First Lieutenant then obtained a Master of Arts in Education from
The City University of New York. His entire career was as a teacher in the Copiague Public
Schools.
One of Allan’s greatest enjoyments was to travel. He would make arrangements for students
and parents to travel with him to destinations throughout the United States and Europe during
summers and holidays. This love of travel continued throughout his adult life with his last
journey being a Bahá’í Pilgrimage to Haifa, Israel during the Ridvan Festival in May, 2018.
Allan was not only a dedicated teacher, he was also a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He
grew up as a Boy Scout and was determined to provide and foster the joy of service through
scouting. He donated his collection of Boy Scout memorabilia to a new Boy Scout museum.
Allan had a passion for collecting and identifying pottery. He was often consulted to aid in
identifying pottery for collectors. He coauthored with Linda Carrigan the book ‘Weller Pottery
The Rare, The Unusual, The Seldom Seen’ with most of the photographs taken from his
immense collection of Weller pottery. He generously provided select pieces from his collection
to the Pottery Museum in Zanesville, Ohio. He would also attend local flee markets and garage
sales to locate pottery made in Bradenton then donate the pieces to the historical society.
His kind and generous nature was an inspiration to everyone he knew. Every year, Allan
would engage the Bahá’í community and friends to collect food items, toiletries and clothing
throughout the year for One Stop/Our Daily Bread in Bradenton. He would take great joy in
announcing how many pounds of canned goods he had dropped off each month.
