Born November 4, 1928, she lived her entire adult life in the Chattanooga area. She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. and Flora M. Smith; husbands, William G. Hodges, and Robert B. Colkitt; son, Bradley Smith Jenkins; three sisters, twin Nadine Brown, Vaunda Lee Beinert, and Frankie Juanita Smith.
Evaline is survived by her son, Richard (Rebecca) Jenkins; sister, Marcheta (Jimmy) Henley; grandchildren, Blakely (Barry) Roof, Elliott (Billy) Wells, Tanner (Kelsey) Jenkins, and Nikki Couppee; great grandchildren, Reed and Callie Roof, Will, Silas, and Sophie Wells; daughter-in-law, Dee Jenkins, as well as several nieces and nephews and countless friends.
She graduated from Central High School in 1947. She was a Certified Ophthalmic Optician who worked for doctors, I. Lee Arnold and Ira M. Long. Evaline was a member of Chattanooga Medical Assistants and held offices both local and state wide.
She was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church for 36 years. When the church was sold, she moved her membership to Northside Presbyterian Church. Evaline was an Elder of the Church and a member of the Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Loafers Camping Club where she and Bob traveled the country and Europe. Evaline lived her life to the fullest and was active and self-sufficient, living alone and driving until the end.
She was a kind and compassionate soul who was loved by many. She will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, June 20, and 10 to 11 am on Monday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Evaline’s life will be held at 11 am on Monday, June 21, at the North Chapel with Clay Davis officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery.
