Robert Craig Switzenberg, known as Rob, Bob, or some variation thereof, was a dear, kind husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many. Simply to meet him was to find yourself with a new friend. He left us for his home with Jesus on Wednesday, July 8th, 2020. Born January 29th, 1956, to Robert and Jean (Ramalia) Switzenberg; he was 64 years old at his passing.
A graduate of Dansville High School, Rob worked for the City of Mason for 8 years. Early in that time he found the love of his life, Darlene, at a softball practice. They married in 1980. Two children were soon to follow. He then went on to work for Gordon Food Service for nearly 32 years, spending most of his career as a service technician. He took great pride in the care of his customers and the relationships he formed with them.
Rob was a devoted, active member and Elder of Mason Community Church. His passion for mission work lead him to lead the Missions Team and he began working with 6:8 Ministries in Costa Rica in 2006, eventually becoming a Board Member. With the support of Darlene, he gave his time and skills for the improvement of homes for poor families—turning whole communities around, the establishment of a feeding center, development of an orphanage, and an organization of volunteers. He was a mentor and counselor. This work was truly a passion and he will be greatly missed there, but he leaves behind such good that it will continue to grow.
When he wasn’t giving his time to those in need abroad, Rob was often found giving aid to those in need closer to home. Be it a friend, loved one, or even complete stranger, he gave it his all to see the job done right. All who he helped were better off. He was truly a generous man who was willing to give his time and expertise to any that were in need of it.
Rob’s children have fond childhood memories, and knew him as a loving and giving father. His latest joy was his grandchildren. They were as delighted with him as he with them. You could also find him in the evenings in a chair with at least one dog that was much too large for a lap dog, draped over him.
Rob and Darlene were married for 2 months shy of 40 years. They were true partners in life.
Missing him and loving him always will be his wife Darlene Switzenberg; children, Amanda (Craig) Spence, Robert Charles (Jessica) Switzenberg; father, Robert George Switzenberg; sister, Laurel Switzenberg; brother, Jeff (Mary) Switzenberg; nephew, Jeffrey Switzenberg; niece, Katie Switzenberg; and grandchildren, Lillian and Robert Calvin Switzenberg. Preceding him in death was his lovely mother, Jean May Switzenberg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 6:8 Ministries (68ministries.org) and/or Darlene Switzenberg in care of Mason Community Church.
