

Bobbie Carr Stark, 75, of Ames, passed away peacefully at home with her loved ones, on Sunday, July 25, 2010. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, followed by inurnment at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Bobbie was born on January 21, 1935 in Ames to Vern and Doris Carr. She was an outstanding basketball player at Napier High School and was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1953. Following graduation, she was a secretary at Iowa State University. She married Charles Stark on December 7, 1957, and had a daughter, Wesley Lyn.
They moved to Concord, California, where they made their home until Wesley Lyn and Chuck’s deaths, one year apart. Bobbie moved back to Ames in 1979. She began working at North Grand Care Center as head cook for 30 years, retiring in January 2009. For 13 of those years, she was able to work with her nephew, Jon Carr.
She loved riding her own Harley-Davidson motorcycle, stamp and coin collecting, and caring for her dachshunds. She was a fan of college basketball and pro and college football. She enjoyed playing winner circle slots at Prairie Meadows.
She is survived by two brothers, Dick Carr, and Jim (Carolyn) Carr, all of Ames; two sisters, Mary Ellen Maitland of North Salem, NY, Phyllis (Mike) Bryant of Salem, Ore.; many nieces and nephews; a longtime friend, Rick Martin of Ames; and her dachshund, Buddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter; brother, Jack Francis Carr; two nephews, Jamie Carr and Ron Haukoos; and sister-in-law, Betty Carr.
