Carol Sue Harris

Carol lived life with a full heart, a strong sense of humor, and an appetite for good food and good company. She loved going out to eat and made it her mission to visit just about every restaurant in Ames. Among her favorites were Village Inn, Country Kitchen, and B-bop’s, where she especially enjoyed spending her lunch hours. A proud night owl and definitely not a morning person, Carol could often be found at Country Kitchen around midnight, happily enjoying one of their famous large cinnamon rolls paired with a glass of chocolate milk.

One of Carol’s greatest joys was talking on the phone. She loved staying connected with people and could talk for hours, literally. One of her most legendary phone calls lasted six hours with her son, a memory that perfectly captures her love for conversation and connection.

Carol was also a devoted Elvis Presley fan. She admired him deeply and often joked that she was a little disappointed he couldn’t marry her son and daughter-in-law for their wedding. Her playful humor and lighthearted spirit brought smiles to those around her.

Above all, Carol treasured time with her friends and family. She loved being together, sharing stories, laughter, and everyday moments. She was also a proud and enthusiastic shopper at Dollar Tree, where she found both bargains and joy in the simple pleasure of browsing the aisles.

Carol Sue Harris will be remembered for her warmth, her love of people, her unforgettable personality, and the way she made everyday moments special. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur Shaw and Lois Shaw (maiden name pending); her husband, Jerry Ray Harris; and her daughter, Renee Dewitt.

She is survived by her brother, Duane Shaw; her children, Eric (Debbie) Harris, and Ryan (Char) Harris; her grandchildren, Ashley, Nick, Johnathan, Bobby, Ceara, Britnee, Derek, Jeffrey, Tyler, Jeremy, Stacy, Justin, and Joseph; her great grandchildren, Skyleigh, Aiden, Preslie, Brycen, Tatum, Rylie, Elliott, Alea, Rykr, River, Emily, Kevin, and Lily.
