

Madelyn Nalty Shields, 97, of Ames, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 20th, at 11:00 a.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Arvada, Colorado.
Madelyn Nalty Shields was born November 23, 1912 in Denver, CO, to John and Nellie (Gallagher) Nalty. She married Thomas Bernard Shields on November 20, 1948. She had been a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Denver, CO. for more than 50 years.
Madelyn was a very giving, caring person, and was very involved in Catholic charities. She traveled extensively throughout the world with her son, Thomas. She loved to read, do word search puzzles, and was an amazing crafter who made beautiful Christmas ornaments.
Madelyn took great joy in being with her family. She was very proud of her son, Tommy, for his progress in tawkwondo. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren bought immense joy to her life and she was a steady, loving presence in their lives and the lives of all her family.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas G. Shields and John Patrick Shields; daughter, Susan Shields; two grandchildren, Sabrina (Nate) Shields-Cook and Patrick Michael Shields; and two great-grandchildren, Alexander Patrick Cook and Madelyn Esther Cook, all of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, James Peter and Michael Kevin; two sisters; and six brothers.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, to be contributed to the American TaeKwonDo Association, Region 114 Scholarship Fund.
