Renae Ree Younie

Celebration of Life of Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Steven’s Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames, Iowa, 50010. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. following the visitation. Innichment of her ashes will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery at a later date.

Renae Ree (Willard) Younie was born on September 28, 1948 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Harvey Leonard and Lorrayne Mae (Larsen) Willard. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1966. She continued her education at Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech in 1970.

After college, she went to work for the Iowa DOT in Ames in the IT Department as a programmer. She retired in 2006. She was united in marriage to David Bruce Younie on March 2, 1974 at First Christian Church in Ames. There were two children to this union, Jason and Ashley. Renae was an excellent cook who loved to bake as well. She enjoyed cross stitching, singing, ISU sports, but most of all, she dearly loved spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames where she sang in the choir.

Renae is survived by her husband of 42 years, David Bruce Younie; two children, Jason and his wife, Amy Younie and Ashley and her husband, Andy Smelser, and five grandchildren, Aaron Younie, Drew Younie, Lauren Younie, Isabel Smelser and Camren Smelser. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to the family in loving memory of Renae to be donated to a favorite charity of their choosing.
