Sonya S. Lorntson passed away on August 25, 2021. A visitation will take place on Sunday, August 29 from 5 to 8 PM at the Christ Community Church in Ames. A celebration of life will be the next day at the church on August 30, at 10:30 AM followed by interment at the South Saint Petri Cemetery in Gilbert, Iowa.
Sonya S Lorntson was born on August 18, 1981, in Brookings, South Dakota. She attended grade school and high school in Sumner, Iowa, and was a 2000 graduate. From there she went on and attended the University of Northern Iowa for two years.
She was very active in the Gilbert Lutheran Church as their youth minister and currently was working at the Gilbert High School. She was also a big supporter of and involved in the group Elevate. Sonya was a giver and never expected anything in return. At the time of her passing, she gave the ultimate gift of donating her organs to save the lives of others.
Sonya was crafty and had a very good eye for interior decorating. Many family and friends were blessed to have had their houses decorated by Sonya. She was considered a social butterfly and made friends very easily, but nothing made her more proud than her three kids, Grace, Zebediah, and Silas. She truly was their number one fan and biggest supporter. She very much enjoyed watching them participate in their school and sporting events.
Left to cherish her memory includes her children, Grace, Zebediah, and Silas, along with their dad, Seth Lorntson; parents, Jaye and Richard Shonley; sisters, Stacy Magnuson and Ashley (Dallas) Groves; Ted Weaver, brothers, Kyle (Cathy) Shonley, Rick (Threase) Harms-Wagaman; sister-in-law, Amanda (Jeremy)Jennings; nieces, Mariah, Nevaeh, Faye, Brooklyn, Shaelyn, Avenlee, and Gianna; nephews, Kail, George, Jack, Charlie, and many, many friends. Sonya was preceded in death by her two sons, Elijah and Zion.
