Todd Edward Hadley

Todd E. Hadley, age 61, passed away Sunday August 8 due to a long illness. He leaves behind his loving wife Heidi Hadley, son Jordan Vargason, daughter Haleigh Hadley, sister Candice Hadley Aurora, IL, nephew Sam Johnson Aurora, IL, parents Bob and Nancy Mulford Yorkville, IL, brother and sister-in-law John and Marie Anderson Swisher, IA and mother-in-law Joyce Anderson, Swisher, IA. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward H. Hadley, and father-in-law John Anderson.

Todd was born and raised in Rock Island, IL, and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1977. He worked for John Deere for several years before attending Iowa State University, graduating with his degree in electrical engineering in 1991. He joined General Filter in 1988 and worked there until December, 2019. He met his wife Heidi and they married Sept. 2, 2000 at the Ames home they have shared with their children the past two decades. Todd was much loved for his quirky humor. His ability to approach a challenge and figure out a solution was remarkable. He was a den leader for Jordan during his cub scout days and an avid member of the B5 tailgaters. Todd had many animals over his life and loved them all, even the birds. He was a skilled carpenter—not only did he finish most of the remodel on the half-built home he purchased in 1999, he also made his special needs nephew an exercise table and cradle. As a young man he enjoyed outdoor activities, camping and travel. He adored his daughter and son…and had a very special bond with his nephew Sam who has autism and cerebral palsy. Todd was always willing to dive in on a project with his friends!

A celebration of life is planned for August 11, 2021 from 3-7pm at Prairie Moon Winery in Ames, IA. Memorials directed to Ames Animal Shelter.
