Brita was born on January 27, 1981 in Park Ridge, Il. She grew up in Hoffman Estates, graduating from Fremd High School in 1999, and headed to Duke University, where she majored in Biology in 2003. Brita then went on to earn her Masters in Science Education at NC State, and taught at both Green Hope High School and Wake Forest/Rolesville in Wake County, NC. She also returned home to Illinois for a year to teach at New Trier High School in Winnetka.
In 2006, Brita married her husband Jason Kiser, at the Sarah P Duke Gardens in Durham, and shortly afterwards took a break from teaching full-time to settle down in Apex, NC, and to start their wonderful family. She loved being a wife to Jason and mother to their four beautiful children, Barrett, Novalie, Haven and Samson, who were her pride and joy. Over the years, she was always on her way to take someone to soccer practice, children’s theater, gymnastics or Irish dance.
Throughout her adult life, Brita taught Irish dancing at the Inis Cairde School of Irish Dance in Raleigh, where she was an invaluable member of their community for 25 years. Having started Irish dance there as a college student, Brita ultimately earned her Irish dancing teachers’ certification (TCRG) in 2008, and has touched the lives of countless numbers of dancers with her enthusiasm and encouragement.
Brita’s kindness made an impression on all who knew her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, followed up by the best laugh. She could create a song for any everyday occasion, was always up for a word game, and never turned down the teacups at Disney. A graduate of Duke and NC State, she loved being part of a “divided house,” but never wavered in her loyalty to Duke, first and foremost. This school year marked her return to teaching full-time, as a biology teacher at Longleaf School of the Arts, and she was very happy to be teaching science again.
She was preceded in death by her father Larry.
Brita is survived by her loving husband Jason, her children Barrett(15), Novalie(13), Haven(11), and Samson(8), her mother Nancy and sister Kristi. She cherished her extended family including, mother-in-law Susie, father-in-law Bob, brother-in-law Chris (Bebs), nieces Noella, Maia, Aunts Patricia and Linda, Uncles Jack, Paul and Bob and cousins Michael (Paula), Gregg (Nicole), David (Kristen), John (Hannah), Margaret (Corey), Katy, Conor, Christopher, and Lisa.
