He served in the Air Force briefly as a Lieutenant then went on to have a career in retail managing several Virginia W. T. Grant stores arriving to manage his last Grant’s store in Bluefield, WV, where he was fondly called “Mr. D.” Of course, he couldn’t escape the restaurant business and next became a restaurateur running the Brier in Bluefield, WV, for a brief part of his career. The Brier was known for entertainment, as well as, exceptional food - even having special performances & events such as Greek Night with traditional fare, bouzouki players & belly dancers too.
It was at this restaurant where he met a developer, Damien Zamias, who was in town to monitor the construction of Bluefield’s new mall. Mr. Zamias offered him the position of Mall Manager and a new chapter began.
