Diane Lee Smith Boettcher

Diane was born in Keene, NH to Wesley Earl Smith and Virginia Mosher Smith. She was a graduate of Richmond Memorial School of Nursing and was certified as a Registered Nurse. Diane was employed with Johnston-Willis and Chippenham Hospitals in Richmond early in her career and later as a nurse case manager with Blue Cross Blue Shield in both Richmond, VA and Durham, NC. Diane was actively involved in her daughters athletic endeavors traveling around the US and world to support them. As an avid cat lover, in recent years she enjoyed showing cats with her husband through the Cat Fancier’s Association. Diane enjoyed many hobbies to include: sewing; painting; gardening; photography and scuba diving.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Mosher Smith.

Diane is survived by her husband of 43 years, Harold P. Boettcher; daughters, Alysia Maxie and her husband, Stephen of Mechanicsville, VA; and Lori Saal and her husband, Chad of Knoxville, TN; father, Wesley Earl Smith of Summerfield, FL ; sisters, Andrea Lewis of Tallahassee, FL; Kelly Correl Smith of Chattanooga, TN; and Jennifer Dakin of Cape Girardeau, MO; and three grandchildren, Aaron; Eli; and Joseph.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be held 12 pm Friday, August 22, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, VA.
