Donald F. Gersch, Jr., 69, of Apex, died Friday, January 17, 2014. He was born to the late Donald F. Gersch, Sr. and Anna Frances Gersch. He was born in Philadelphia and raised in Red Hook, NY. Don moved to Raleigh, NC in 1965 after serving in the Army. He began his career as a Raleigh Police Officer in 1967 where he met the love of his life, "Mary Evelyn Everette" known to all as "Evelyn" when she was an assistant clerk of Superior Court in Wake Co. The two married October 1969 and shared 45 years together. Don changed his career and worked for IBM in RTP where he held different management positions throughout his 32 years there.
Don has two daughters: Denice Gersch of Apex and Dr. Karen Gersch and husband, Jack Clark of Cincinnati, OH. He has 4 beautiful grandchildren. His grandson Logan Gersch of Apex and three granddaughters: Zoe and twins, Avery and Kelson Clark of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by two sisters: Diann Gersch of Hickory, NC, and Delores Graf of Warrenton, NC. He is preceded in death by his sister, Donna.
Don had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was a true, devoted friend to those he knew and trusted as they were loved as an extension of his family.
He fought a strong brave battle with cancer until his final hours. Our family would like to thank all family, friends, and everyone with Hospice of Wake County who provided such great loving care.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex. A celebration of Don's Life will begin at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Apex Funeral Home.
