Doris, a native of Queens, NY, was born on August 20, 1931 to the late, Kenneth and Grace Foster.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother. sister, aunt and friend to many. Doris met her husband Frank Herzog at church youth group and they married in 1950. They moved to Uniondale, Long Island shortly after and raised their family there. They moved to Randolph, NJ in 1975, then to Waxhaw, NC in 1984, and in 2017 moved in with their daughter Lynn.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Herzog; brothers, Douglas Foster, Wilbur Foster, and Wayne Foster; and son in law, Joe Rogers. She is survived by her sister, Elsa Gross; son, Frank Herzog; daughters Lynn Rogers and Barbara Vale (and her husband Richard Vale); grandchildren, Ashley Cattano (and her husband Cody Cattano), Anna Vale and Matthew Rogers (and his wife Savannah Rogers); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Doris devoted her life to Christ, her family and others. She was always active in church, whether it be as a Sunday School teacher, a Pioneer Girl leader, or most frequently she could be found in the kitchen. When they moved to Waxhaw, NC, Doris volunteered at J.A.A.R.S (Jungle Aviation and Radio Services of Wycliff Bible Translators) and again was working in the kitchen, soups were her specialty.
Doris had a kind and loving heart, she selflessly served others. She always had time for you, to listen, to be understanding of your situation or to help in any way she could. Her home was always open to all and a meal happily provided, no one ever went hungry. She had a powerful prayer life, especially toward the end of her life when she was not able to physically do a lot. She could always pray for people and send cards to let people know she was thinking about them and they were loved.
There will be a small service and celebration of life in the Spring.
Fond memories and expressions of condolences can be shared online at apexfuneral.net for the Herzog family.
