Doris Elaine Basler Opacic

Doris was born August 22, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Ralph Henry Basler and Nellie Regina Ryan Basler. After graduating from high school, Doris worked at the Marine Corps Depot. She was married in 1955 and moved to Annandale, VA in 1963. Doris and her husband enjoyed participating and supporting their children in many school and after school activities including sports, music and scouts. Doris and her husband moved to NC in 2013. After a long happy and full life, she will be remembered as beacon of light, a wise mentor and trusted friend to relatives, good friends and neighbors. Doris was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years at the Community Congregational Church and later an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, VA. She greeted everyone with a smile, always had a kind word to say, and enjoyed writing and receiving letters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Opacic; brother, Ralph Basler.

Doris is survived by her sons, George Opacic (Kimeri) and Ralph Opacic (Sherry); daughter, Linda Opacic; granchildren, Shanna, Kelly, Carly, Katy and Tyler; great grandchildren, Ryan, Jake, Olivia, Brianna and Sienna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at National Funeral Home, Falls Church, Virginia on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 3:00 pm with a reception to follow. A graveside service will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 10:00 am.
