Emilie McCoy Schmidt

Emilie McCoy Schmidt, 82, of 231 Chimney Rise Drive Cary, NC passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at her home in the presence of her husband John and children; Emilie, John, Paul and Anne. Emilie was born in South Amboy, NJ and lived in Keyport, NJ before moving to Cary, NC in 1995

She was a member of the Centering Prayer and Quest Groups of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Apex, NC, AARP and the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA.)

She enjoyed serving the community through volunteer activities including eucharistic ministry, the NC Symphony and delivering meals on wheels. Some of her many interests included quilting, hiking, skiing, square dancing and traveling.

A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Schmidt is survived by John Schmidt, her much loved husband of 58 years; four children, Emilie and her husband Clark Nelson of Cary, NC, John of Dayton, OH, Paul and his wife Suzanne of Cary, NC and Anne and her husband Douglas Hughes of Somerville, MA; five grandchildren, Matthew, Deanna, Vincent, Regina and Valerie; two sisters, Jean Donnelly and Rita Kane and one brother James McCoy; her daughter in-law Philomena Harrell of Apex, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a son Eugene Joseph, sisters Margaret McCoy, Monica Turnbull, Mary Czok and two brothers Owen McCoy and William Aiden McCoy.

Friends and relatives may call on Monday August 12, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Apex Funeral home, 550 West Williams Street Apex, NC 27502. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Rd Apex, NC 27502.
