Floyd Meredith “Buddy” Lowe, Jr., age 77, passed away on February 9, 2026, at UNC Rex Rehab and Nursing Care Center in Apex, North Carolina. Buddy, the youngest of three siblings, was born in Hampton, Virginia on October 7, 1948, to Floyd Meredith Lowe, Sr. and Betty B. Lowe.
Although Buddy was born with an intellectual disability that provided many challenges, his gregarious personality, trusting spirit, childlike demeanor, and contagious laughter endeared him to all. Buddy had many interests and passions, including dogs, bowling, fishing, food, riding in his nephews’ cars, Westerns, the original Hawaii 5-0, and most of all INK PENS.
Buddy had a wonderful gift for a turn of phrase, giving our family many enduring quotable kernels of wisdom. He was a gift to our family, and he will be missed until we see him again on the other side.
Buddy is survived by his sister, Bette “Jeanie” Duncan and four nieces, Lisa Fant (Gene), Amy Wilkinson (Mark), Christy Hibbard (Ed), and Tina Falkner (Brian “Squid”). He was predeceased by his parents and his eldest sister and brother-in-law, Ina Raye and Ray Jordan.
Visitation will be held at Apex Baptist Church at 3:30 pm on Monday, February 16, 2026, followed by a celebration of life service at 4:30 pm. The interment will be at Newington Baptist Church, Gloucester, Virginia, on Tuesday, February 17, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a scholarship honoring Buddy and his parents: North Greenville University Advancement, ATTN: Fant Scholarship, P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, SC 29688.
The family expresses deep gratitude for the excellent care that the UNC Rex staff provided over the last seven years. In addition, the family would like to acknowledge and thank Amy Wilkinson and her husband, Mark, for their loving care and years of sacrifice over Buddy’s care
