AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Francesco Pietro Fiorentino

6 avril 1936 – 1 août 2024
AUX SOINS DE

Apex Funeral Home

Francesco Pietro Fiorentino, 88, of Apex, beloved husband of Shirley, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of August 1, 2024. Francesco was born on April 6, 1936, in Tripoli, Libya, to the late Leonardo and Santa Fiorentino.

He is survived by his daughters, Dina and Lisa (Greg), and grandchildren Harrison (Becca), Trevor (Ximena), Louis, Tony (Bekah), and Annalisa. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Coradina. He is also survived by his siblings, Stefano,Fernando, and Concetta.

Franco was a devoted husband, father, and Nonno to five grandchildren. He will be deeply and forever missed.

Franco was extremely proud to become an American citizen. Born in Tripoli, he lived as a refugee during WWII in Italy, and later worked for the American Embassy in Tripoli, where he met Shirley 63 years ago. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and infectious smile, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Franco served as a minesweeper in the Sahara desert after WWII, completed equivalency exams and citizenship while working full time. He had a successful career at Sears Robuck Inc. before transitioning into real estate, where he thrived until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he spent 20 years as a golf course ranger, delighting in bringing his grandkids for lunch and golf cart rides. He spoke several languages fluently and was an avid tennis player, golfer (notably scoring a hole in one on 04.08.2010), devoted fan of Italian football and the Chicago Cubs.

He and Shirley traveled the world together, with their favorite pastime being attending operas together and he deeply appreciated Shirley's cooking above all else.

Franco was patient, kind, reliable, hardworking, and always sought to learn and achieve the best. He held strong family values and believed in the power of education. He approached life with determination, high expectations, and a deep commitment to supporting and caring for his family.

A family-only viewing will be held on August 4th. In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to the charity of your choice in his name.
