June 9, 1947 to June 1, 2025
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
Gerard Michael Massoni (Jerry) passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 1, 2025, after a brief hospitalization at UNC REX Cardiovascular Hospital. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who provided care and compassion for him during his time there.
Jerry was born on June 9, 1947, in Elizabeth, NJ to parents Charlie and Elsie Massoni. In 1966, at age19, he entered the United States Air Force and served honorably until 1970. That same year he met his beloved wife, Patricia, and they were inseparable from that point forward. Patricia’s father, Joseph Imbriaco, secured Jerry a job at the Esso refinery in Bayway, NJ which kicked off his long and successful career in the oil refinery business.
Pat and Jerry were married on October 16, 1971, and later had sons Michael and Mark. Jerry was an extremely hard worker who provided well for his family, but he also made sure to be present for them. He loved his family more than anything else and was the epitome of a great husband and father. Jerry was adored not only by his family, but also by his friends, neighbors, and coworkers. He was funny, kind, and extremely generous – always ready to lend a hand (or a dollar) to anyone who needed it.
He was incredibly smart in many ways. Not only was he a skilled machinist able to do complicated mathematical computations, but he also did the New York Times Crossword puzzle every day. He loved fast cars, especially Corvettes, and was lucky enough to own three during his lifetime. He also loved wine and scotch and had an excellent pallet for both. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed target shooting, golfing, and relaxing at the beach – especially in his beloved Aruba.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Imbriaco), his oldest son Michael, his youngest son Mark, his daughter-in-law Johnna, and his half-sister Caroline Brookwell. He is also survived by his only grandchild, Brady, who was his best buddy and the pride and joy of his life.
A family visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12th from 11:30 to 12:30 at Apex Funeral Home 550 W Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502.
The funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00. The graveside ceremony will take place after the funeral at Raleigh Memorial Park 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
