

Jim was born on January 29, 1944, to the late JC and Edna May Outlaw in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Columbia city schools. After graduating from high school, he proudly served the country in the South Carolina Air National Guard for six years. He went on to work for the South Carolina Department of Transportation for twelve years before God called him into the ministry. Jim attended and graduated from Columbia International University (Columbia Seminary and Bible College). This is where he discovered the joy of reading which quickly developed into a massive library. Jim’s goal in life was to faithfully serve the Lord in every opportunity He gave him. He met this goal every day until the Lord called him home. He served as lead pastor in five churches throughout South Carolina, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Outlaw Long of Columbia, South Carolina.
He is lovingly remembered by his faithful wife of 56 years, Patricia “Patsy” Nix Outlaw; sons, Michael Outlaw (Natalie), of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Mark Outlaw (Staci) of Holly Springs, North Carolina; his three wonderful grandchildren, Georgia and Henry of Holly Springs, NC and Rachel of Hendersonville, NC, his sister, Barbara Outlaw Spires of Columbia, SC, sister n law Audrey Stewart (Toye) of Darlington, SC, brother n law Clair Gordon of Florence, SC many beloved nieces and nephews and lastly, his grand dogs Bella, Blu and Mabel.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home.
