Born in Kansas City, MO, D’Arcy was the son of Joseph Wallace McCormick and Ann Margaret (McArthur). His life is rooted in a deep family history in both the United States and Canada. His grandfather, James Joseph McArthur, pioneered the American and Canadian Rockies and was Dominion Land Surveyor who served as International Boundary Commissioner that first surveyed the US/Canada boundary. D’Arcy’s father Joseph was a professional hockey player who was the Captain of the inaugural US Olympic hockey team, winning a silver medal in 1920.
D’Arcy was a solid outdoorsman as a youth who spent time with his many cousins and large extended family in Canada. He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing and was the ski team Captain in his hometown of Sudbury, Canada. D’Arcy’s family and career took him to Florida, where he worked in sales for the hurricane storm-shutter business. His background in electrical engineering led him to start his own business, where he invented and patented a removable style of shutter panel which still stands as a standard used to meet today’s increased hurricane building code requirements.
As an adult, D’Arcy enjoyed dancing, camping with his family, and traveling. He was always up for new adventures.
After retirement, he moved from south Florida to North Carolina, where he was able to spend the golden years of his life with his daughter, grandchildren and great grandchild.
D’Arcy was a devout catholic who attended both St. Mary Magdalene Catholic church in Apex and St. Bernadette Catholic church in Fuquay-Varina. His hobbies in later life included swimming, photography, old western movies, thrift shopping, and playing cards with his friends.
D’Arcy is survived by his brother Father Larry McCormick of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall. D’Arcy was the loving father to daughter, Tracey Lynn McCormick (Ashbaugh), son, Michael and daughter, Kathryne, and husband to former wife, Beverly-Ann. He is further survived by son-in law Adam Ashbaugh, grandchildren Molly Beitz (her husband Christopher), Shane Ashbaugh (his wife Sara Beth), and Hailey Ashbaugh and great grandson Lincoln James Beitz.
