Kahli Patricia Dearani

Kahli Patricia Dearani, 38, of Cary, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC of a severe illness. Kahli will be deeply missed by all family members and friends as she touched us all with her beautiful smile and her kindness.

Kahli was born June 19, 1984 in Charlotte, NC. Kahli attended UNC Greensboro where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, 2012 and was on the Dean’s List, while she was working full time during the day. She was a key player on the UNCG volleyball team while attending UNCG traveling to other UNC Universities for volleyball competitions.

She was preceded in death by her son Jordan Michael Dearani, January 23, 2007 to May 18, 2007, and her loving Grandfather Charles Abraham Dearani, May 3, 1922 to January 30, 2013.

Kahli is survived by her husband James Thomas Sheppard, Jr. of Greensboro and his parents Juanita and Thomas Sheppard also of Greensboro.

Kahli a beloved daughter is survived by her father of Michael Dearani of Cary, NC and her mother Rhonda Szapiel and her husband Leo Racine of Effingham, NH. She was the devoted sister of Kyle Szapiel and Alyssa Doucette along with her husband, Ernie Doucette, as well as a cherished Auntie of AnaBelle and Ernie. She was also survived by her Grandmother Michelina Dearani.

Kahli's other loving family on her father’s side Aunt Anna Marie Dearani Phillips and cousins Jacqueline Woolford, Matthew Phillips, Danielle Meachum and 5 great cousins. Also loving family members include her Aunt Joan Dearani, her Aunt Catherine Dearani Caccamo, husband Thomas, and cousins Kimberly and Courtney Caccamo.

Kahli’s other loving family on her mother’s side include Uncle Carl Walker, Uncle Eric Walker, and Uncle Ian and Leslie Walker.

Also attending the service are close friends of the family Catherine and Jeff Graham, Roger Norman and Marcus Carter.

Kahli also loved her pets Doberman dogs Storm (her favorite) and Rayne and Pumpkin (pet cat) who thought she was a dog.

A Private Funeral Service will be held at Apex Funeral Home, Apex, NC. The family will receive friends at the facility provided to private friends and family members only.
