Kathleen Weathers Batchelor, 96, of Apex, North Carolina, passed away November 25, 2023, at the Wake Med Cary Hospital following an extended illness. A lifetime resident of Wake County, NC, she was born September 27, 1927, to David and Zola Massey Weathers of Knightdale and then, upon her marriage to Lee Batchelor in 1946, lived most of her life in the Apex area (Green Level community).
She is survived by her daughter, Gladys Logan (husband, Steve); granddaughter, Jennifer Long (husband, Charlie); and great grandchildren, Cadence and Logan Long, all of Apex. She also leaves behind a brother, Bobby Weathers; sister, Phyllis Norman; several nieces/nephews and their families; and her former daughter-in-law, Donna Batchelor, and her family. She cherished each of her family and friends and was especially thankful for the love and support shown her during her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Batchelor; son, Grady Batchelor; grandson, Jonathan Logan; sisters Audrey Barbour and Emma Weaver; and brother, James Weathers. She had cherished memories of the good times shared with relatives and friends, many of whom predeceased her.
When asked what was her secret to a long life, she responded, “Keep on doing; don’t give up.” Indeed, she planted and tended her flowers this past spring, cooked desserts for family members within the last month of her life, insisted on following her personal care routines and doing chores around the house up to and including the last week of her life, and called to check in with family and friends from her hospital room in her final days.
What a remarkable woman she was—her strength of character/perseverance in the face of obstacles; her love, care, and protection of others; her commonsense wisdom and excellent memory; and the love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There will be a deep void—a lasting sorrow—in the hearts of her loved ones. At the same time, there is joy in the thoughts of her homecoming and the end of her suffering. (Your family and friends love you ever so much—you will live on in our hearts and minds.)
There were numerous people that she wished to thank for her care; however, she often expressed how appreciative she was of the staff at Cary Cardiology (Dr. Netrebko, Melanee, and others) for their care of her over several years, including monitoring and advising her in her efforts to control her chronic heart failure/heart disease.
Services will be at Green Level Baptist Church on Friday, December 1, 2023, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., funeral at 11:00 a.m., and burial in the church cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Green Level Baptist Church, 8509 Green Level Church Road, Cary, NC 27519.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared below within "Add a Memory" for the Batchelor family.
