August 28, 1975 – February 16, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lori Ann Clark Hrehor on February 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving and dedicated family, at her home in Holly Springs, North Carolina, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Lori was born in Vestal, New York, and moved to North Carolina in 2004 to build a life with her beloved husband, Daniel Hrehor. Together, they created a home filled with love, faith, and family.
Lori was a passionate educator who dedicated over 20 years to Athens Drive Magnet High School in Raleigh, where she served as the Special Education Department Chair and Coordinator of the Beginning Teacher Program. She was a strong leader and an advocate for students with special needs, earning recognition as WRAL Teacher of the Week, Athens Drive Teacher of the Year, and the Governor's Old North State Award. Lori’s unwavering commitment to her students and colleagues was evident in all she did.
Lori was deeply driven by a profound sense of duty to her family, profession, and faith. She was loving, devoted, and compassionate while also persistent, organized, and determined, imparting invaluable lessons on facing challenges with grace and dignity. A proud mother to Emily and Hailey, she treasured every moment with them—from family vacations at Disney and Hershey Park to cheering on her daughters at sporting events. Lori also loved attending concerts and relaxing on the beach with a magazine in hand, always keeping a watchful eye on her daughters and their cousins playing at the surf's edge. No matter what, she made time for the people she loved, consistently shining the spotlight on her family, friends, students, and colleagues, even as she bravely battled her illness.
Lori was a graduate of Vestal High School and earned her Master’s degree from Binghamton University. Prior to her teaching career in North Carolina, she worked for four years at Community Options, Inc., in Binghamton, New York, providing career and housing support to individuals with disabilities.
She is predeceased by her grandparents, Gerald and Naomi Clark, and Joe and Ida Guccia, as well as her brother-in-law, Michael Hrehor. Lori is survived by her husband Daniel, daughters Emily and Hailey, parents Wayne and Marian Clark, sister Kim Clark (partner Aaron Lovelace), brother David Clark (wife Jennifer), niece Carissa, and her extended Hrehor family, including mother and father-in-law Joe and Nancy, seven brothers/sisters-in-law, four nieces, and one nephew. Lori was a valued member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, where her faith played an integral role in her life.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Sherrod and the medical team at Cary Oncology for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SECU House at UNC Chapel Hill, 123 Old Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517, in support of patients undergoing medical treatment.
