Lucille Yates Horton

Lucille Horton, 100, died Monday, March 09, 2015 at her home in Apex. She was born September 28, 1914, to George Yates and Leonie Mills Yates. She will long be remembered for the love she had for family, friends and the hundreds she taught during the 47 years of teaching.

Lucille was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she organized the first church choir and directed music for 10 or more years. She taught Sunday school classes 50 years and served on numerous committees.

The Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority was dear to her. She served as president and held many offices. She was a member of the Apex Golden Age Club where she served as president for many years.

She is survived by three nephews, George Yates, Mike Yates and Ted Goodwin, three nieces Catherine Short, Ann Herndon and Deborah Samonds, and one sister-in-law, Hilda Yates.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Horton, three brothers, Carl, George and Wade Yates, and two sisters, Lila Atwater and Leonie Goodwin.

A Funeral Service will be held 11 am Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 1288 Mount Pisgah Church Road, Apex, NC 27523, burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 10-11am prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to thank Lisa Stevens, Janet Carroll, Diane Smith and Ronald Copeland for their loving and compassionate care.
